The first quarter of 2025 recorded a total of thirty-seven (37) incidents of freedom of expression violations. The figure is two units higher than that of the preceding and last quarter of 2024, (October-December 2024) which stood at 35. Unfortunately, most of the reported violations had not been redressed in any way when compiling this report.
Burkina ranked first with nine (9) violations, the highest number of violations for this quarter. Ghana followed with eight (8) violations followed by Mauritania with four (4) violations, while Nigeria, Benin, Sierra Leone and Guinea each recorded four (3) violations. Guinea and Burkina Faso each recorded three (3) violations. Mali recorded two (2) violations, The Gambia and Senegal each recorded one (1) violation.
